Ishaqzaade Review – Hindu-Muslim Lovestory.

ImageHindu – Muslim love story, is always interesting, its part of our fantasy for peace and religious harmony. The movie does a good job in showing the rural political ethos and the moral opportunism of the righteous political leaders who play caste/religion politics. The underlying theme is how to love someone and make the person more humane than a animal, which our handsome hero is.

What made me write a review about this movie is the question that,

1) Will a wave of mass inter-religion marriage between these 2 communities actually bring and end to Hindu-Muslim hate politics and curb future riots or genocide?

Its kind of stupid to believe that mass hindu-muslim marriages will happen unless government makes it compulsory and enforces it. We all know the governments are least interested in promoting anti-popular laws. So why are these big banner films trying to say? Or are they reflecting and reinforcing the general secular subconscious of the masses? It must be so, i don’t see any other reason why the movie resonated with me atleast, also my DVD wala a muslim highly recommended the movie.

2) Is it a good idea to marry someone who is not socially acceptable?

Great loss of fortune is done by unequal marriages, marriages are institution which build other institutions, they are the bedrock for social infrastructure, Do you want to be on the fringes of society by displeasing your immediate family and they the larger community? Of course for a urban centre like Mumbai caste/religion matters less,  with high disposal income it probably doesn’t matter much. In urban centres its more about class discrimination. But in small towns?

Of course love is blind and all that!!!  But one relationship decision can change and alter your life for the worse.

India’s Saving Culture

Yesterday I was at a high brow kind of event, a book reading event , since it was related to fashion, It had some fashionable, most progressive thinking people, Also there were some people with networking on their mind.
I then happen to bump into a client at the event who is a Certified Financial Planner. As a courtesy, I enquired “how is business?” he replies “people are holding back and not investing”. After the event, over high tea, he enquired if I might put in a word to the organiser of the event about a financial workshop he wishes to conduct, just in case I might know the organiser.I was befuddled with such a request, I had to inform him very politely, that since this is a cultural institution and only culture related events/talks take place, your financial products or investing lecture wouldn’t be appropriate as it is not culture related.

He immediately remarks, my talks are indeed about culture, it is about the “saving’s culture”. This made me go ROFLOL.

It also made me realise, those people who want to sell at any cost and complete targets, have culture farthest from their minds and consciousness.

Is dhoble a front for the working class man?

A Juhu rave party is busted by Mumbai police, 42 are tested positive for drugs in the dope test, among them are sons of prominent people like Bishen Singh Bedi, Ramanand Sagar and the likes. Other parties and clubs raided by cops which created a furore in the social media space also are places where the affluent go and celebrate. I believe almost all the trendy places in town have been paid a visit by ACP Dhoble and his boys.

A few years back, the then home minister R R Patil has clamped down on dance bars which forced many dancing bars to close down, the clientele of these dance bars were mostly unsophisticated people. The elite middle class were happy about this AFIK. This time, they are not so happy with the raids, as the elite middle class warns about their night life being talibanised.

So as a society is this the governments effort to moral police the elite, is it that the elite middle class have fallen so low in moral values, that a supercop dhoble had to manifested in their consciousness? asking them to behave or else?

Is the pressure from the so called working class who are facing the pinch of the economic slowdown the most making the mumbai police stand up for them and persecute the elite by banning them from rubbing it in with the drugs and wild parties? The working class i know, looks down on late night partying, women wearing skimpy clothes, drinking alcohol together, going out of the house after a particular hour in night. Is this the working class conscience manifesting itself in ACP Dhoble?

So where is the society headed? I was already complaining that not enough women come to bars alone! Sigh
